Daily Studiees

Dailies as part of my May Sketch a Day.

Objective is to improve my aptitude for simple shape composition within the objects that I draw. I’m aiming for efficiency and artistry; creating overall pleasing shapes as a factor of:

-silhouettes

-local values

-lighting (shapes created by light and shadow)

This one is a different exercise lol. Practicing my visual library in different themes.

Oona's Dragon (Throwback and WIPs)

Painting commission done for my former work colleagues who just had a daughter. Early 2015 if my memory serves me right. They were my former bosses at my first job when I was still working in Accounts management! Haha!

Below are the shot comps I did to visualize the story and how it will be executed in book format. This was done much later and I was already learning a lot from my Pictorial Composition class, so the thumbnails are a lot clearer and simpler. You can actually glean some of the plot if you zoom in to read.

I also came up with the story btw, and it just started with super rough sketches like this. I remember doing two options for a story haha.

Note: I wish I had already taken Nathan Fowkes's pictorial composition class before the finished painting! Oh well, just part of the whole learning journey.

Crown of Fire

“Twelve years ago, they had been small, and the ring of flowers that Ty Lee had woven into Azula's hair had meant more than any crown, honor, or victory. Before Ty Lee had learned the concept of tributes, she had made oaths of friendship and love.”

--

I took one of the thumbnails from the previous post into a final painting. Whew! The written exerpt above is from this beautiful piece from one of the beautiful minds I've gotten to know around the Interwebs. The text actually came first and it's what inspired me to create this image after reading it.

Quick Scenes

Thumbnail comps in value. Done to exercise efficiency and visual clarity in shot composition. I am learning sooo much from Nathan Fowkes' Pictorial Composition lectures at Schoolism.

Some of my random ideas. Motorcycles and...kali versus zombies! :p

I just wanted to draw cute animals :3

Anybody watch Avatar The Last Airbender? Wish more of the Fire Nation's past was explored!

aaand just some still life with arrangement

Experimenting with Watercolor!

I'm a beginner again with this new medium. But I'd like to think that the medium is just an extension of one's foundations :) This was a fun exercise. And I really tried but I ended up overdetailing haha.

 So messy! XD
